Hello.

Is there any good free viewing app for the ipad that will play back
powerpoint presentations (PPT files) with audio?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Niek

If you search for "powerpoint" on the App Store you will find several
options.

I've tried 5 or 6, but none of them seem to play audio.

And I know it's possible, because in the past I've been able
to play them back in a free app with audio, but it was on the ipad
of someone else and since then all apps have been lost and now
I can't find it back, because I forgot the name of the app and at
that time (at least a year ago) I also tried a bunch of apps before
finding one that plays ppt files with audio.

So I was just hoping there is someone out there who watches
powerpoint presentations on their ipad occasionally and knows a free
app which can play them back with audio.

Though of course it might also be the case that the app I've used
no longer works (at least regarding the audio playback) or
switched from free to paid.

That was one of the apps I've tried, but it seems it doesn't support
playback of presentations with audio.

if microsoft's own app won't do it, then how can you expect third party
apps to do it?

how were these presentations created anyway?

Well, I've used third party apps in the past that actually played them
back with audio, so I know it's possible on the ipad.

Presumably with the powerpoint software on the pc that has more
functionality than the powerpoint ipad app.

After some additional testing on my own ipad I've found that the
WPS Office app does play them back with audio.

https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/wps-office-free-mobile-office/id762263023?mt=8

I think one of the problems with an earlier test of that app is
that perhaps the powerpoint presentations I was testing didn't all
have audio and on the pc I've first ensured with the free
powerpoint viewer program from MS that a small sample.ppt file actually
contains audio (on slide 12 there is sound).

http://www.acdbio.com/sites/default/files/sample.ppt

I've also double checked that the Powerpoint app from Microsoft
*doesn't* play back audio on the ipad.
