I have a Samsung S3 running 4.4.2. I want to use the Samsung supplied Samsung
Print Service Plug-in to print to my wifi Brother laser printer, which is on
my wifi home network. All other laptops and desktops find this printer and
print to it.

If, on my Samsung phone, I press Settings>Connectionis>More Networks>>
Printing, I get Samsung Print Service Plugin (On), and then press this, I get
Searching for printers...but it never finds my Brother laser printer.

How do I do this?

Apparently, Android doesn't support Windows networked printers:

printing-from-your-android-phone-or-tablet/

"All of these types of printers—USB, Bluetooth, and Windows network—are
unsupported by Android. Google recommends setting up Cloud Print on a PC
connected to such a printer. Android doesn’t include any support at all
for these types of printers"

Hard to believe.

not really.

cloudprint (along with apple's airprint) has been built into just about
every printer for *many* years and works quite well.

for older printers that predate that, set up a server, either an app
running on a computer (mac/win/linux) or enable it with a click on many
popular nas devices, such as synology.

I was about to say that app will only work with Samsung printers,
however, it appears it supports all Mopria-certified printers. Check the
website for your printer model:
http://mopria.org/certified-products

If it isn't there, you will have look at other options like the Brother app

Interesting. Before I read your post, my phone finally found my Brother
HL-2270DSW mono laser printer. So, I brought up an email, pressed
settings, and pressed print. My phone said preparing to print, and then
two circular icons came up, Google Print and Samsung Print. I pressed
Samsung Print, and a new screen appeared, with "Brother HL-2270DW series
A4, Mono", at the top of the screen, and with only the text of the email
(no headers) in the rest of the screen. I pressed the printer icon in the
upper right, and got "Preparing to print...printing...Printing completed.
But what came out of the printer was a blank sheet of paper with:

PCL XL error
Subsystem:KERNEL
Error: IllegalAttribute Va lue
Operator: ReadImage
Position: 12

I tried the same thing with a picture from the Gallery, and got the same
results.

I them went to the Mopria site you suggested, and entered my printer model
number, and got no results.

I them went to

http://www.brother-usa.com/connect/mobile/Mopria.aspx

and sure enough, Brother has no app for my printer.

Thanks for the reply.

I think you're close. The fact the printer even tried means it's
communicating with your phone, which is usually the barrier. Try printing a
PDF document. I know with my HP that's all I could get it to print with its
app.
