Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 888, next year's flagship Android processor
<https://9to5google.com/2020/12/01/snapdragon-888-announcement-qualcomm/>

Dunno how much of this is hype nor how much is real, but at least it
doesn't need to be throttled in about a year to less than half speed. :)
o 3rd-generation X60 5G _integrated_ modem supports sub-6 & mmWave
o displays with a refresh rate up to 144Hz.
o photos and videos at up to 2.7 gigapixels/sec (120 12MP/sec photos)

Dunno how important that stuff above is though... (GPU also beefed up)
o Basically, Qualcomm appears to be a fast-moving target to catch up to

Particularly, it seems, with respect to 3rd-gen on-board 5G capabilities.

See also the same information (likely provided by Qualcomm marketing):
o Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 888 processor will power the Android flagships of 2021

Anyone claiming to "catch up" to Qualcomm must accept it's a moving target.

UPDATE:

Qualcomm seems to be fab'ing on Samsung Silicon for its 5nm 888
with its integrated modem, at least according to the BBC today...

o Qualcomm: Android phones to get lucky number Snapdragon 888 chip
<https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-55150532>
"Apple's iPhones recently launched with processors based on a
similar technology manufactured by Taiwan's TSMC.
But Qualcomm has opted to have its chips made by Samsung's semiconductor
division despite the fact that TSMC produced its earlier flagship 865
and 855 ranges."

Again, I repeat, these are all shills, so take anything marketing claims
with a grain of salt. More information about the 888 is sure to be
forthcoming, particularly the integrated 5G modem (with sub-6 & mmWave).

Anyone claiming to "catch up" has to realize it's a fast-moving target.

Here's the press release, where it's interesting they (truthfully) don't
claim it's "Qualcomm Silicon", given that it's clearly "Samsung Silicon":
o Qualcomm Redefines Premium at Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital 2020 (Press Release)
<https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2020/12/01/qualcomm-redefines-premium-snapdragon-tech-summit-digital-2020>

I'm not sure how much is hype & how much matters, but they said it has:
o "mmWave and sub-6 across all major bands worldwide"
o "support for 5G carrier aggregation"
o "global multi-SIM"
o "stand alone, non-stand alone, and Dynamic Spectrum"
o "26 tera operations per second (TOPS)" AI
o "lower-power always-on AI processing"
o Updateable GPU Drivers"
o "Desktop Forward Rendering"
o "frame rates achieving up to 144 frames per second (fps)"
o "photos and videos at 2.7 gigapixels per second or roughly 120 photos at 12MP resolution"

As always, take any press release for what it is (MARKETING shills)...
o Anyone care to share which, if any, of those are critically important?

Qualcomm isn't calling it Qualcomm Silicon as it's clearly Samsung Silicon.

So it will be slower than which ever Apple's current flagship processor
is...

...right?

And you can predict the future, too!

The great thing about CPUs in Android phones, is they're not throttled
to half speed in about a year, artificially, by the OEM, in an OS update.
o Just so that the OEM can sell more phones by slowing down old ones

o Apple forced to admit the truth they purposefully slowed down phones
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/misc.phone.mobile.iphone/l6gAjvW6aqQ>

UPDATE on the SnapDragon 888 CPU:
o OnePlus 9 leak shows off the phone's new design, confirms Snapdragon 888
<https://9to5google.com/2020/12/12/oneplus-9-snapdragon-888/>

"the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is confirmed in the app with its
codename Lahaina showing up as being used by the OnePlus 9.

This comes as no surprise, but given the impressive performance gains
this chipset brings, it's great to see.

Alongside that chip, this OnePlus 9 pre-production unit is set up with
8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, implying this is the base model of the
lineup. "

Note: The RAM on iPhones is so utterly laughable as to make you wanna cry.
o Facts: How does RAM memory management truly compare between Android & iOS devices (the facts, not unsupported marketing claims)

The only time Apple ever tells the truth, is when the law forces them to.
o And the law forced them to admit they _purposefully_ slowed down iPhones.
