Moto G Ring volume greyed

I have a Moto G 2nd Gen 8GB phone with 16GB Sdcard running Android
Marshmallow.
I apologise for my stupidity.
When a caller phones me, I hear nothing - but the screen tells me a call
attempt is being made.
Ring volume in Settings/Sound & notification is greyed out.
In Other sounds, only Touch sounds is greyed. I ungreyed it for the sake
of the argument.
I've just set Also vibrate for calls
Phone roentgen was none, but is now Ago Navies.
I have set all Do not disturb rules off.
Ring volume remains greyed.
Suggestions? Please!

I had do not disturb set.
I swiped down twice on the home screen to get to the quick settings
screen. I clicked do not disturb.
I found Alarms only set and set it to go off in 15'.
That worked, but it looks likely to come back on in 15'.
I am sorry I ever went near do not disturb.

If I click that, a "Do not disturb" screen opens. On the top right,
there is an on/off circle over 'ellipse'. What do you call a horizontal
rectangle with semicircular ends?
