Hi,

Android 6 (at least) has a "not disturb" feature which is nice. It syncs
with the Google Calendar automatically: if I make an appointment in the
calendar it automatically sets my mobile phone to "do not disturb"
during that interval.

This is a nice feature, but the problem is that it is set on all events.
If I add an event like "dentist" or "cinema" I do not want phone calls
to disturb me, but if I set one like "send form at 1 PM", it also sets
to not disturb, making me miss messages and calls that I want to notice.

Is there some way to control which events set the "not disturb" feature?
Failing that, it would be better to set none.

AFAIK, your only choices are based on whether you accepted or declined
the 'meeting' -- e.g. you can set DND only if you accepted.

So one option might be to invite yourself to those events (if such a
thing is possible -- I've never tried), then don't reply to the invitation.

I think I read about that setting, accept/decline, but I never saw where.

Ugh. Very cumbersome...

What about "Show me as: Available/Busy"? I tried, but I'm uncertain of
the result.

That should work.

I have just added a 3 minutes test event (named "test disturb") to see
what happens.

I tried before with normal events, but then I forget to check when the
time comes :-}

[... waiting]

Ok, do not disturb was not set. Now I duplicate the event, name the
other as "test not disturb". It automatically had set the check "show as
busy".

Curious... I think Google does some heuristic to decide if the event
should be one type or another.

[... waiting]

Yes, the mobile went automatically to "do not disturb mode" at the exact
time, and back again to normal in three minutes.

Solved... :-)

Till Google sees fit to add an explicit "do not disturb" setting.

Well, new problem. I created the test event above in the computer, using
the web browser pointed to https://calendar.google.com/calendar.
However, on the mobile calendar app I do not see the "show me as
busy/available" setting. What can I do? :-?

But "send form at 1 PM" is more like a task? So why not create a task
instead? No idea how it works with this do not disturb thing though.

Well, a task that has to be done at a precise time. It was just an
example; it maybe an appointment with the cleaner: obviously I should be
able to receive calls and messages during the "appointment".
