Is there a way, or even an app, so that I can archive sms messages off the
phone and onto a pc.
And if I can is there a way to read them at a later date on the PC.
Perhaps using an android emulator? Or perhaps running android-x86-4.4-
RC1 ???
Grateful for any help.

When upgrading or re-flashing phones, I use "SMS backup and restore
Pro", I also use the same developer's "Call logs backup and restore"

I think the backup files are an XML format so should be fairly readable
on a PC.

Thanks Andy,
I've found loads of apps in Play Store so I was hoping someone would
recommend one. I guess the one you mention is that by Ritesh Sahu. I'll
give it a try.
Thanks

Downloaded the free version to try and it seems to have saved it to "sd0" .
I am using an HTC One S which doesn't have an SD card slot. So I guess
that is a virtual card. I am an android novice although can hack linux.

Opened the file using ESFile Explorer's text editor and didn't look like
xml to me. I'll try and transfer using the awful HTC sync manager and see
what the PC makes of it.
Cheers

Yes, I have mine uploaded to google drive, that may be a pro feature.

Just checked, the file it creates is definitely called .xml, let me just
download it from google drive ... yes, the content is XML
