Is there a way to make ES File Explorer default to extSdCard?

When I start the ES File Explorer, it defaults to LAN view
but I always want to start at the External SD Card view.

Is there a way to make ES File Explorer default to the
External SD Card upon invocation?

If you open ES and go to the extSdCard and then up one level in the
hierarchy to the parent folder (of its mount point) you can
press-and-hold extSdCard to select it and then use "Add to desktop"
from the menu to create a new desktop icon that will always open in the
extSdCard folder.

That's not quite what you asked for, but the effect is very similar.

Set the extSdCard directory as your Home directory in Settings
then under Local menu, long press Home item and select -> set as start
page

That is one of the best features of ES File Explorer, which is that
I can put a file in my documents folder on the external SD card, and
effectively put a symbolic link to that file (or folder) on the desktop.

It's a great way to manage a todo list or a price-comparison list for
shopping without the horrid overhead of the typical todo and shopping
programs.

I couldn't follow those instructions because I couldn't find
that "set as start page" option in ES File Explorer, but I
solved the problem by turning OFF everything except the
external SD card.

Yikes. I was using the (much cleaner, leaner, easier to use)
old ES File Explorer.

I just updated it today, and wow. I *hate* the new ES File Explorer
interface! Too much junk!

Do I really need "Weather" & "News" & "Facebook" buttons in ES
File Explorer? Lord help me if I do!

Jeeesuz. Did they destroy the clean ES File Explorer interface
or what?

Anyway, I probably couldn't follow your instructions because
the menus are TOTALLY different in the two versions.

Now I need to know how to get BACK to the original.

I have the apk backed up by "app backup and restore" so I will try
to figure out how to restore the *old* ES File Explorer from the
backed up apk file.

My advice to others?
DO NOT UPDATE ES FILE EXPLORER!

Help us out one more way, please: tell us the version information for the
"much cleaner, leaner, easier to use" ES FE that you're hoping to reclaim,
and that of the newer interloper that you so detest; and whether
oldapps.com (or somewhere) still has that older version archived for us.

Thanks. And cheers, -- tlvp

While most desktop apps have a "Help->About" dialog box
or "command --version" command-line interface that tells us
app version information, Android seems to be extremely lacking
in that regard.

So, I'm not sure *how* to find the version information of the old
(cleaner) ES File Explorer interface versus the new (horrid) GUI.

Looking in the "App Backup & Restore" directory, I see this:
ES File Explorer-com.estrongs.android.pop-246-v4.0.3.apk
ES File Explorer-com.estrongs.android.pop-126-v3.0.9.0.apk

So, what can I conclude about the version numbers between the
old (clean) black GUI and the new (very cluttered) blue GUI?

Is this the answer to the version question?
Old (black) clean interface = version 126-v3.0.9.0
New (blue) utterly horrid interface = version 246-v4.0.3

The question is how to reload the old version.
Presumably I can 'execute' or 'interpret' the old APK file somehow?

Very possibly; thanks, JJ.

When I installed a screen-scrape app for my v. 2.3.5 Android device, I
downloaded the .apk from whatever repository it was in to wherever my
device stores downloads, copied it to my externally mounted microSD card,
and then, after copying it for safekeeping to an external (computer)
hard-drive, *ran* the copy of the .apk that was on the microSD card.

(Did I tap it? double-tap it? long-press it? Not sure any longer. I think I
did have to choose among copying, moving, installing, or deleting it.)

HTH. Cheers, -- tlvp
