How to create empty placeholder folders using the Nova free app launcher
(this probably works with any app launcher on Android)

In the olden days, on my Samsung Galaxy S3, as I recall anyway, whatever
launcher I had on that S3 would create an empty placeholder folder simply
by longpressing on the homescreen; but that launcher didn't do all the
other really nice stuff that the Nova free app launcher does by default:
o Nova Launcher, by TeslaCoil Software, free, ad free, GSF dependent

Today I figured out a way to create empty placeholder folders on Nova free!
o It probably works for _all_ launchers, given it's so ridiculously simple!

1. Use any method you like to create a blank PNG icon.
I chose to download & install "Blank Icon/Widget", by Straight Up
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blankicon>

I used "Blank Icon" to create a blank icon in my Android DCIM folder
o Internal/DCIM/blankicon.png

2. Set any desired existing app to customize the icon to this blank icon.
(I chose my own "hello world" app; but any app will do as well.)

Put two of those arbitrary apps together to create a new folder
Name that new folder "placeholder" (or whatever you want).

3. Longpress on each app icon to delete the name & set the app icon:
a. Delete the "hello world" name of the app
b. Set the app icon to the blankicon.png you just created

Voila!
Now you have a placeholder folder on your homescreen using Nova launcher!
