I have a tablet with ICS. At a certain point I lost the Gmail icon.
Can't send messages since there's not icon.
The program and icon are listed in the applications.
The program will open if a receive a message.

How can I get back the icon?

Tablet is: Wondermedia WM8850-Mid

Open the app drawer (round icon with 6 dots in) and drag the gmail icon
back to the homescreen?

Hi, Andy

As I wrote, the gmail icon has completely disapeared from all windows.
So there is no gmail icon I can drag to the homescreen.

When I deleted the gmail update (from installed applications) it said
that I was back with the basic gmail program but everything was gone
including the gmail icon. Installing the update from googleplay
brought back the program and icon in the list of installed
applications but no gmail icon on the homesreen or else where.

I've been trying to restore the same icon on the same tablet for weeks with no success. I can receive my emails via other apps but the Gmail icon eludes me - very frustrating!

On my smartphone, it's called "Google Mail".

Do you know how to add app and widget icons to your display? Can you find the
list of all installed apps?

This is something different than just missing the icon from the home screen. The icon is nowhere to be found. not on any screen and not in the apps or widgets. I just bought a brand new phone. steps to establish a gmail account were prompted. After going through the steps, no gmail icon is available anywhere on the phone. Did I mention this is a brand new phone? No root, no nothing. New and stock.

RESOLVED:
Go to apps, select the "Google" icon. This will open up all the google related applications on the phone. In there you will see gmail.

That is absolutely crazy!

You need to add the program to one page or another. Depending on what
you have on your phone it may be different but using the Go Loader you
press and hold a spot on the screen until the phone goes into the add
applications mode and than select the app that you want.

This simply adds the app icon to the page,

Be sure it's not under protected apps, mine was for weeks, and I unchecked the box and all is fine.
Also returned my cartwheel app and calculator which were also lost

Generic guess:

Move to the 'home' page where you want the icon to be.
Long press on the Gmail icon in the 'applications' page.
Slide it to the underlying 'home' page.

I'm pissed that sometimes when apps update their icons disappear from my
home screens and I don't notice until I actually need to use the app. WTF?

Triple thanks in reply to an article I posted four years ago - in which
I didn't actually give the answer I'm being thanked for.
