Hmm... half of these suggestions appear to be pretty primitive, down to
simple four-bangers. Most android devices already come with stuff like
that pre-installed, why would anyone install an add-on app for that?

I currently go with ChampCalc.
Past calculations are not only logged, but can also be edited. Extensive
set of scientific functions, high precision, complex numbers, unit
conversion, constants, and much more. Nothing for the simple-minded,
though...

What I need is typical I think which is not only mathematical calculators
of the two types predominating (big button simple & scientific functions)
but also hexadecimal programmer's bit calculators and then some special
purpose calculators (2D/3D drawing, fractions, time, units, timezones, etc).

As an example here are some free graphing calculators I installed yesterday

Nick Software Arity Calculator
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ua.naiksoftware.aritymod&hl=en_GB&gl=US

I think most of us need both a big button simple & science calculator.

Fore the free generic big button calculator category these seemed to look ok
