All my ringtones, alarm tones, all of them - have disappeared. Phone is
mute.

The other day, trying to solve something, I deleted all app data. Now
the phone doesn't ring at all, it is mute.

Ringtone for alarm tone says "9", and just sounds a boring bell. I can
set "Silence", "predetermined", "new"- New goes to "downloads" or to
"Drive", and there is nothing in there.

Configuration, sound, say that the phone tone is "none". Ntofication
tone has "Unknown". Trying to set one offers "none" as option. I mean,
an option named "none". If I try to use "ES File explorer" as app, it
offers search on "/storage/emulated/0/Alarms" which is empty.

Whastapp does not sound, either.

All gone!

I may have a backup, but I don't know what directory is supposed to hold
them.

I have uninstalled the "clock" (ihabilitated), then reinstalled it, and
forced it to ring. It rings an ugly bell, and still offers no sounds,
same as before.

Phone is Motorola X Play.

Well, solved, I don't really know how.

I tried to add sounds to the download directory: mp3, ogg, others. They
were not seen by the phone. I forced power off, then on, then the old
sounds started to appear. I had to reconfigure clock, main sounds,
whatsap. I don't know what else may have been affected.

Very strange and disturbing.

This is what happens (to me too, dammit!) when you delete app data --
the last step before doing a factory reset. Some of my stuff came back,
but not all.

The only non-standard sound I have is the 'Flint' ringtone, which
resides on my sdcard.

Along that note, you can *lock* some aspects of the user interface.

For example, I have a highly organized Android phone desktop, where I have
~250 apps (rough count) well organized on a single desktop, with four other
Android phones organized with the same apps in the same place with the same
names (it's easy to change the names of the icon shortcuts).

Luckily, with the "nova free" launcher, you can lock the desktop such that
it takes a "long press" to unlock things (on the desktop).

Instantly, my accidental moves/deletes of the desktop icons stopped!
