host name/name mismatch: host1.com != host2.com
where one name references a DNS 'A' entry, and the other name references
a 'CNAME' for the same entry. I believe what is hap[pening is that the
remote sendmail is reporting itself as the CNAME entry, and my sendmail
is doing a reverse name lookup and finding the A entry, and even though
both refer to the same IP address, my sendmail thinks that they are
different.
Any suggestions on how I fix this problem?

Yes, have the remote site report its canonical name.
