funky hostname after checking sendmail version

I checked the board a bit ago to find out how to get the version of
sendmail running on one of our HP servers. I executed the
command "telnet {box-to-find} 25" from the local host back to itself.
However, my connection bombed (server is in another country) and now
I'm seeing this at command line prompt.

[root@-a]:/>hostname
-a
[root@-a]:/>

It's like it can't resolve hostname any more.

Any recommendations?

How about reading the hostname man page? And verifying your
/sbin/init.d/hostname script structure? Nothing to do with sendmail ...
