buildaddr: no host

I get this very odd message for every bounce the system should normally
receive:

(unnamed replaces the original domainname)

Connected to mail.unnamed.de.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail.unnamed.de ESMTP Sendmail 8.9.3/8.8.7; Wed, 28 Jun 2000 17:12:52 +0200
MAIL FROM:<>
554 buildaddr: no host
QUIT

The system is a RedHat 6.0 Linuxconf 1.1.16, and since it ended up in ORBS
recently, we had to update from RedHat's site.
Is this a known error with the update?

Suse linux is better - the configuration script
builds an *.mc file which is used to generate sendmail.cf
with m4 preprocessor
(officilly recomeded for 95%+ installations)
