Routing firstname.lastname

We have been successfully routing mail addressed to user@domain to our mail
server. However, mail addressed to firstname.lastname@domain isn't being
routed properly.

I think the rewrite rule that routes this mail is:

R@$+@$=Z @$1pmail.$D

(pmail being the domain we route all incoming mail to).

Not being particularly familiar with sendmail (yet), I can't immediately see
how to alter this to route the new format addresses.

I've got the O'Reilly book on order, but in the meantime can anyone help?
