Did you try to ^J each list item? Usually it works.

Or, you could forward as an attachment. I know you are offered this
choice if you have headers displayed. I have not checked to see if
there is a way to get this without headers displayed.

There's always the 'Bounce' option, especially if all you're doing is
forwarding the e-mail without comment. The recipient gets the mail as
it was originally sent, and it appears it's from the initial sender, not
you.
You can also try an alternate editor -- not pico. Other text editors
may have different maximum widths. Personally, I use vim as my editor,
and have set my column width to 74 for maximum compatibility for
recipients -- but I'm not limited to that width (I've made some
documents with 250 000+ columns by mistake, once...).
