Hello everyone,
I am new to pine and need some advice. In the configuration
field, Personal Name, I put my full name "Roger Scudder". When
I write in a news group instead of my name being placed in the
from field the name of the news group is there. I have looked
over the configuration options and don't see anything that would
change this. My name is correct in the header, just not in
pines index. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,

Nothing is broken. You are describing Pine's default behavior.
Pine assumes you already know your own name, so why throw it back at
you? You may change this. Read the online help under index-format in
your configuration.

This gets asked about as much as "How do I change my From:", so what
you've done wrong is not checking for existing threads.
The answer? You know who you are. Why would Pine tell you?

The thing is, this gets asked so much because it is not very user
friendly that way. Example:
I used to use netscape for mailing, and switched to pine. At first, I
did not realise that my Name was spelt slightly different in pine's
setup. Now, I could write a program to change all the different names to
one specific name, but I can't be bothered. So the only way was to
change the index format...
Pine developpers are proud of their concept that all folders are the
same. Well, usability would increase if pine knew which folder held only
sent messages. But that is against the philosophy we all felt so much
with pine 4.0 and the strict concept of the hierarchical folder
structure...

This gets asked by people who refuse to review the list of Frequently Asked
Questions. You are wrong. Conveying more useful information on the index
screen is the correct approach.

You don't need a program to change different names. You entered your name in
the first place; don't blame pine.

Then change your message archives for your convenience. Let's see, how to
identify sent messages. Oh, those would be messages with your name in the From.
You are bitching and moaning about things that are entirely under your control.
