I do not see anything either. You could always set up say postfix to do
address rewriting and to alter the From address alpine write in with the
one you really want. But I agree that is a kludge. I suspect someone
will know how to put in the return address you really want.

I thought alpine might grab it from either the USER or the LOGNAME
environment variable, so you could do

(export USER=remotename;alpine)
but that does not work so I am not sure where it gets your name from.

This works here in ALPINE 2.02(1266) on FreeBSD:

# Add these customized headers (and possible default values) when composing
customized-hdrs=From: "Gizmo Alu" <gi...@example.net>

# A list of alternate addresses the user is known by
alt-addresses=Gi...@example.net,
gi...@example.net,
....

Dunno if the "alt-addresses=" plays a part in it or not....

think this must be documented in the FAQ, in short I think this is it:

Main - Setup - Config and then

[ Composer Preferences ]
[X] Allow Changing From

+

Default Composer Headers = Reply-To:
From:
To:
Cc:
Subject:
Customized Headers = Reply-To:
From: Me <my.address@domain>

No, unless you set "Copy To address to From if it is us".
