Hi there!

I'm setting up my account to change the from header. I've already
done that but I'm still not sure about something. From: changes, but
X-Sender doesn't. Is this enough to stop spamers? I mean, when you post to
newsgroups you end up getting lots of spam, and the may get your address
from the From: header, don't they? Do I need to change X-Sender too? If I
have, how do I do that?

Thanks in advance!

P.D. You'll hear from me soon, I'm also setting up a retrieve recipe with
procmail :)

They'd be stupid if they didn't grab everything from all header
fields, and the body too.

(On the other hand, there is some substantial evidence that a lot of
spammers +are+ stupid, but don't count on all of them being stupid.
And those who aren't are the ones who are making money, e.g. from
selling address lists.)

If you're using Pine (which your Message-Id seems to indicate), I
hope there's an answer to this in the Pine FAQ. Perhaps you should
tell us more about what software you're using.

(There's a Pine FAQ at <http://www.washington.edu/pine/faq/index.html>
but it basically just says that X-Sender is still a problem. I don't
think you could lose much by switching to a different client, though.)

If I were a spammer, I'd automatically strip NOSPAM from all mined
addresses. I'm firmly against address munging, but if you really think
you want to do it, it would probably be a good idea to try to apply
some creativity. (You've probably seen those really weird ones where
somebody's From: line says something like fHERR...@mooAQU.ARIUMcom
and the .sig says to take out the fish and the fish tank.)
