mailcap entry for type image/jpeg not found
after you press the <enter> key to select a mail item in Mutt's index screen?
My mailcap file definitely has an image/jpeg entry, and I've tried dozens
of mailcap_paths, file permissions, owners and mailcap contents....
I'm using Mutt 0.61 on Debian Linux 2.0.27.
Thanks!

Well, let Mutt know which program you prefer to apply to JPEGs.
Enter type and program info to the mailcap, ie $HOME/.mailcap :
image/gif; xv %s &
image/jpeg; xv %s &

Mutt-0.65 is out! See the ChangeLogs on my Mutt page:

Yes, I know I should upgrade, too. ;-)

I found a bug or two in Mutt's processing of its ~/.muttrc file. (Mutt version
0.61 on Debian Linux 2.0.27)
When I used the configuration lines
set mailcap_path="/etc/mailcap"
and
set editor="vim"
among others in my ~/.muttrc file and press the <enter> key to look at a
jpeg mime email message in Mutt's index screen, I get the error message
mailcap entry for type image/jpeg not found
even though there's definitely an image/jpeg entry in my mailcap file. When
I commented out the mailcap_path variable and tried again, I got
No mailcap path specified
until I commented out the editor variable, at which point pressing <enter>
worked and the mime message was displayed.
I suspect a bug or two in the ~/.muttrc processing where the stack is
corrupted, possibly during the processing of the editor and mailcap_path
variables.
PS: I already had the environment variable $EDITOR defined as vim, and when
I ran Mutt under strace I found that without the mailcap_path configuration
variable set, it was looking in /etc/mailcap and ~/.mailcap for configuration
info by default.
