on using public-inbox for the first time

Haven't figured out how to use public-inbox yet. I've cloned the linux
kernel mail list and I can see the newsgroup served by
public-inbox-nntp, but the newsgroup is empty --- zero messages.

I did index the repository. I mean --- I ran the program.

$ public-inbox-index ./linux.kernel.org/
$ echo $?
0

I can git log the repository just fine.

What must I do?

My config file:

How I run public-inbox-nntpd:

And that's when my NNTP client gets

Whatever the problem I have with that mail list is only with that mail
list. Every other one I tried worked as expected.
