1) Why would I get two #FTP folders ?
+ #ftp
#ftp
I can only subscribe to the childre of + #ftp one, which only shows the
contents of the anonymous ftp area, treating files as mail folders.
Also, each subfolder includes an empty folder as well. Subscribing to
the actual #ftp folder gives me an error from the IMAP server saying the
folder does not exist.
The second one has no contents, nor it shows as subscribed to.
2) How to recompile UW 4.1FINAL disabling these extra namespaces
(#shared, #public, #ftp, #mh, etc.)
Please cc any followups...

This is a client bug.

Afraid I can't address that, but people should know that there's a new
UW IMAP revision out (to take care of a recent security nastiness and
to wrap in some recent bugfixes). It's at:
ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/mail/imap.tar.Z
This is actually a link to imap-4.2.tar.Z. This version claims to be
IMAP4rev1 v11.237 (no FINAL and no BETA).
(Note that I have no connection with UW (much though I wish I did...)
- check with them for details.)

Not bloody likely unless you use a legitimate email address.

No.
