IMAP level backup - recommendations?

Folks;
is there a sane/smart/recommendable way of making a (read-only) archive of an existing cyrus imapd installation? I am looking for something like an "IMAP level" rsync to copy mails between two IMAP servers by copying mails missing on the target host while not deleting mails that have been removed on the source host, and this should possibly work easily for a larger, more complex cyrus folder structure. ACLs and flags aren't required to be transferred here, just talking about the messages. Recommendations, anyone?
