How can I set up Communicator (Mac, 4.03) so that it automatically copies
all my outgoing messages to the folder "Sent Mail" on the Server? I know I
must be missing the correct pref for this.

Thanks.

Hi,

I use Communicator for windows - and it has no option for copying
sent-mail files to the server, an option that I've longed for. I don't
know about the Mac. If you're interested in having sent-mail copied into a
similar folder on the server, then you should try Simeon at (www.esys.ca).

Cheers, Emmanuel.

Communicator does not support keeping your Sent Mail on the server directly.
I myself, simulate this capability using a couple other preferences. I
configure myself as a bcc: on every message I send. Then I set up an incoming
mail filter to move all messages from me to the Sent Mail folder on the IMAP
server. Works like a charm. It also has the side benefit that when I send
mail, it only goes over the network once (just to the SMTP server) rather than
having to go both to the SMTP server and the IMAP server.

As a side note, I was longing for the same feature and added myself as a
bcc: to every message, like John explains. I meant to make a filter
similar to John's for moving these bcc messages then to a Sent folder.
However, I never got to do that.

This was because, while I was testing that the bcc worked, I realized
that it is much better to archive my responses with the others'
comments. This lets me have complete threaded discussions filed in topic
related folders.

So, by chance I have found a new and a better way to organize my mail. I
use Netscape for mail reading mainly because its mail message threading
capability and now the threads are complete, because my messages are
included.

If you tend to file your messages by other criteria (sender, date, ...),
this method may not suit you as well.
