Mailing Iran Net?

Hello, I'm trying to send email to a friend of mine
in Iran. The hostname is "neda.net.ir", but when i
send email to "theiru...@neda.net.ir", it bounces
back immediately to me, saying something along the
lines of "unable to find neda.net.ir in usc.edu
domain" - I am currently a student at USC, and am
trying to send email from one of their machines.
My guess is that the mail server is somehow mangling
the name looking for "neda.net.ir.usc.edu" which
is nonsense.

However, when I type "host neda.net.ir" I get the following
response:

neda.net.ir mail is handled by helios.edvz.univie.ac.at
neda.net.ir mail is handled by alborz.nic.ir

Can anyone please help me? I have tried the following
guess at a solution, and it hasn't bounced - yet.

"theirusername%neda....@helios.edvz.univie.ac.at"

Any advice would be appreciated - and naturally, I would
appreciate it if you email me your ideas. Thanks.
