I have tried to research this myself, but don't know any
standard search terms. If there's anything on line about this, please
do direct me to it.

I have had this occur with several recent versions, but it
seems to happen regularly with 6.2. It seems to occur only when I open
Eudora for the first time each day. That is when I have the largest
amount of mail, generally, and have three filters (including junk) at
work.

The "problem" - though it causes no harm - is a "phantom
mailbox" that seems to open minimized. The taskbar image is of the MS
Windows logo, and the window appears minimized in the upper left
corner of the viewing space. If I right click on the taskbar icon and
choose "close", it simply closes, not to appear again.

I've put a picture of this here, for reference:

http://maniform.com/eudora

Look at the upper and lower left of the viewing area to see
what I mean.

This is nothing more than an extremely minor annoyance, but if
anyone has any information on it I'd be curious to learn what it is
and how to prevent it from happening.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

DGI

Please note also that the MS Windows logo appears in the upper
left corner next to the "File" menu. Under ordinary circumstances, the
image of a mailbox appears there.

Thanks again, DGI

This has been known since quite a few versions and is harmless as you
have seen. If you had searched this newsgroup you would have found
that it has been reported numerous times. You may want to search for
"ghost". It is not a rare thing, but not very common though. I haven't
seen it myself. AFAIK there is nothing you can do about it.

Ahh, "ghost". That's what I needed. "Phantom" turned up
nothing, as did several other searches.

Thanks for your reply. DGI

I've got it too, since 5.x Annoying, but harmless, apparently.

I've never seen it either. Older versions of Eudora sometimes did this
when they checked for updates. The problem in newer versions may or may
not still be the same thing. If you want to try turning off update checks,
put the setting DontShowUpdates=1 in the [settings] section of eudora.ini.
If the cause is something different, that won't help, but it won't hurt
either.
