Does anyone have a clue on how to send email messages from EUDORA
while using AOL as an ISP?

've been using EUDORA eMail Client software for more than 12 years
now.

And I am being forced to leave this wonderful software for AOL's
COMMUNICATOR, due to the fact that I can't send email messages with
EUDORA while using AOL as an ISP.

I have to stay with AOL as an ISP, so leaving AOL is not an option for
me.

Does anyone have a clue on how to send email messages from EUDORA
while using AOL as an ISP?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Can't be done. AOL uses a proprietary e-mail program.

But, all is not lost! Here's another option... And,
it's more professional (and certainly *cooler*!) then
having an e-mail addy that ends in "@aol.com"... ;-)
Fyi, you'll still be using AOL as your ISP.

Get your own domain name. Then, find an inexpensive
website host that also offers SMTP. You'll be able to
create your OWN e-mail address! And you'll get
multiple addys, too -- as many as your host allows in
the pricing plan you select. You'll then be able to
send and receive e-mail using Eudora, or any POP3
e-mail client.

Even if you never create a web page, it's still a
great because you get your own personal e-mail
address(s) and an e-mail server!

Important note: Many companies offer just POP3 e-mail
access for a few dollars a month -- as long as you
have your own domain name. This allows you to only
RETRIEVE e-mail sent to you at your domain -- NOT
SEND. If you use AOL as your ISP, you cannot SEND mail
this way, because AOL uses its own proprietary e-mail
program. (If you use a regular ISP, you can send mail
from your domain using your ISP's SMTP server.)

<blatant plug #1>

I use http://www.000domains.com/ to register domain
names. Only $13.50/yr.

</end blatant plug #1>

And guess what? mauricioramirez.com is available!
Wouldn't it be cool to have your own domain name? And
EVEN COOLER to get mail addressed to
mram...@mauricioramirez.com.INVALID ?!

<start rant>

Fwiw, I think EVERYBODY should register their own
names as .com domains. (And .net/.org/.us, too, if
available!) If you ever become famous (or infamous!)
your name will be STOLEN by EVIL DOMAIN NAME
SQUATTERS! The woman who accused Kobe Bryant of rape
had her name stolen as a dot-com WITHIN HOURS of it
being "leaked" to the media.

And this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME! Pick anyone
newsworthy (a regular person, not a celebrity, etc. --
even a really, really big Lotto winner!) and do a
WHOIS search on their name as a dot-com. You'll see
their name has already been registered by an EVIL
DOMAIN NAME SQUATTER! <gggggggrrrrrrrrrrr> (The scum!)

P.S. Can you guess that I hate EVIL DOMAIN NAME
SQUATTERS?! ;-)

P.P.S. And yes, I registered mine five years ago, lol.

</end rant>

<start blatant plug #2>

If you need a website host, I suggest
http://www.gearworx.net/. I switched to them several
months ago, and they're great.
http://www.gearworx.net/html/0,9843,14.shtml

If you go with them, please use my name. I won't get
anything for giving them the new business, other than
"Thanks, Laura", lol. I already have the most
expensive Linux hosting account they offer, which I
signed up for during a special promotion (transfer
from another website host) and got 50% off FOR LIFE.
NO PRICE INCREASE EVER! (They're offering this again,
btw. But now it's only 30%, heh.
http://www.gearworx.net/html/0,9843,58.shtml)

I can't believe I'm only paying $11.96/mo for this
sweetheart-of-a-deal! (Look at second gearworx link I
posted, to see a comparison of plans. I did a lot of
research before I switched site hosts, and not only
were gearworx' prices the best, but they knew their
tech stuff.)

</end blatant plug #2>

Okay, I now return control of the newsgroup to the
lovely Katrina, and her wannabe assistant-in-training,
Meirman. ;-) (And sorry for the "spam" plugs and the
EVIL DOMAIN NAME SQUATTERS rant, lol!)

Have you read the earlier thread on this matter, that you began? You
haven't replied to any posts. I don't want to retype every thing I
said.

Meirman

If emailing, please let me know whether
or not you are posting the same letter.

Change domain to erols.com, if necessary.

LOL. I don't have the knowledge or the patience or memory to get up
to Katrina's level, or a job situation that involves me in more facets
of this than I do for myself.

Yeah, sure you are. :)

No need to apologize for that.

I've thought about registering my name as my domain. Or my business
name, when I thought I was going into business. There are only 4
other people in the US with my first and last name and a listed
phonenumber, so it's unlikely one of them will beat me to it, but I
may win the lottery, or a Nobel prize.

Sometimes I just like to sit and think about winning a Nobel prize
like my father did.

The latter is true. The former isn't. You can't do it directly, but there
are programs that act as intermediaries between standard pop3 clients and
most of the major proprietary servers, including AOL.

In this case, the program that people seem to find workable is
eMail2Pop/AOL2Pop. I mentioned AOL2Pop in an earlier message, but it has
since occurred to me that the name got changed to eMail2Pop.

No, no! I don't want control. That would mean having responsibility.
Responsiblity would make it less fun. :)
