Open a new message, type some nonsense, e.g. xxxxyxyxyx,
invoke Edit > Check spelling,
note the "Edit Dictionary" button
(this is for the *user* dictionary,
which modifies built-in dictionaries).

I don't find that any new words added to the dictionary stick in the
latest Eudora. Anyone else find this?
Ann
Fixed it now. Found that the uignore.tlx file was read only for some
reason.

Are there any files u*.tlx in your email data folder?
If so, they can be examined with Notepad or Writepad;
in my case, words added with "ignore" during my spelling checks
are being added to my "uignore.tlx" file,
as are words which I add using the "Edit dictionary" button,
so this much seems to be working:
Directory of C:\......\Eudora [u*.tlx]
07/25/2005 01:39a 15 uchange.tlx
02/24/2007 11:47a 150 uignore.tlx
07/25/2005 01:39a 15 usuggest.tlx
Current contents of my files:
--- uchange.tlx ---
#LID 0009 0 0
[nothing more]
--- uignore.tlx ---
#LID 0009 1 18
Eudora
[17 more lines here]
--- usuggest.tlx ---
#LID 0009 2 0
[nothing more]

Yes, thanks. I was spurred on today to do a bit of looking around and
found that the uignore.tlx file was the one I needed and it was set to
read only. Seems to be working okay now. It's nice when something
actually falls into place so easily.. think I'll celebrate with a
g&t.. :-)

Glad to hear happy ending -- this illustrates why it can be
valuable to users for Windows and DOS to display file attributes,
although for many years, M$ in its infinite wisdom
has put obstacles in the way of anyone seeing them,
other than for one file at a time, only by manually
requesting "Properties" of each individual file in the GUI.
In a user's Windows 98 system that I was just working on,
for example, the very ability to even activate that general option
(which had up until then been called "show file attributes
in detailed view") had been deleted from the "Folder options"
during one of M$'s thoughtful "automatic updates,"
and I remember being irked to no end by the fact
that not only did M$ simply leave that option off by default,
but they had later even gone to greater lengths to positively
prevent users from turning it on without knowing
a registry hack to restore the necessary deleted registry values
which had even presented that option under the "Folder options."
Nowadays it falls under "Choose columns" or "Choose details"
in Windows Explorer -- or install what's at cygwin.com
and get a superior Linux-like command environment under Windows:
$ ls -l u*.tlx
-rwx------+ 1 Administrators 15 Jul 25 2005 uchange.tlx
-rwx------+ 1 Administrators 150 Feb 24 11:47 uignore.tlx
-rwx------+ 1 Administrators 15 Jul 25 2005 usuggest.tlx
I see we've both been writing at the same time again;
enjoy your g&t and have a great weekend :)
