Eudora v7.0.1.0
I was sending an E-mail (*) and got a Windows "Stop" screen with a big
error log.
(*) E-mail WAS sent.
Reboot and Outbox has been skewed in size, and all messages are
labeled with a red circle with an X in it.
Shut Eudora down, deleted out.toc, and restarted Eudora... same
result.
E-mail is still all there.
But Eudora won't let me re-mark Status as messages sent :-(
Any fix for this?
Thanks!

Do you mean that messages you had deleted re-appeared?

This looks as if the TOC had already been lost.

Only certain changes to status are permitted,
apparently as a safety measure to prevent illogical actions
(such as to prevent Eudora from indicating messages as sent
which really hadn't been sent).

Are there files in your mail folder named
Out.mbx.001
Out.toc.001
Out.mbx.002
Out.toc.002
Those are previous automatically saved backups of your "Out" mailbox;
you may rename those files, like this, say:
Out.mbx.001 -> Out.001.mbx
Out.toc.001 -> Out.001.toc
Out.mbx.002 -> Out.002.mbx
Out.toc.002 -> Out.002.toc
Then when Eudora is next started, "new" mailboxes
Out.001 and Out.002 will appear; if these happen to contain
valid backups of some of what's currently in your "Out" mailbox,
you can transfer those messages to your current "Out" mailbox
and delete any old identical items.
It would be prudent, however, to keep mailboxes
"In," "Out" and "Trash" trimmed to a small size
(by always transferring their contents to some other mailbox
as soon as possible); this seems to preclude some problems.

I just fixed it the hard way... transferred everything out of the
Out.mbx to a new mailbox named "Process", changed the status to
"Sent", then restored them to Out.
Everything now seems OK, though I did pare the Outbox of about 800
E-mails ;-)
But I didn't know about the...
Out.mbx.001 -> Out.001.mbx
Out.toc.001 -> Out.001.toc
Out.mbx.002 -> Out.002.mbx
Out.toc.002 -> Out.002.toc
Which I will _certainly_ remember from now on ;-)

I just found this in the "Release notes" for version 7.1.0.9
----------------------------------------------
CHANGES FROM 7.0.1.0 TO 7.1.0.9
----------------------------------------------
MISCELLANEOUS
-------------
Now allowing recovered messages (those with a state of '?')
to be manually marked as Sent,
so if the Out mailbox table of contents gets rebuilt
then the user can set the rebuilt messages back to Sent.

Now that Eudora support is kaput... where do I get a copy of 7.1.0.9?
And will it recognize my "paid" status?
> will 7.1.0.9 recognize my "paid" status?
You could install it first into a slightly different path
(not overlaying 7.0.1.0), then feed it your name and code
right away, just to find out.
Or, when you open any version in any registered mode,
Help > "Payment and Registration"
shows the month and year of that registration code;
with Paid mode, Help > "About Eudora" also displays
a month number in: Version x.x.x.x - Paid Mode (MM)
I know that 10/2005(81) is good for 7.1.0.9, for example,
and so would be any later month's registration,
9/2004(68) is not good for 7.1.0.9,
and I don't know for any dates in between
(perhaps other folks can narrow down this range?)
Sponsored and Light mode registrations,
on the other hand, appear to be good indefinitely.

OK. Mine shows 8/2006.
> OK. Mine shows 8/2006.
Well, that's still well within the one year window,
even if a brand new Eudora version 8 were coming out today!
So you're certainly okay,
and I hope you enjoy your "final" version of Eudora.
