Being a long-time multitasking Eudora user, my Windows Task Bar is always
loaded with a dozen or so open documents and application icons, so easy
eyeball identification helps speed my days work. The Eudora 5.2 little brown
mailbox thereupon has been my idol for a decade.

But upon installing 7.1, that task icon has bleached to a light blue. On are
occasions that reverts to brown (just did; why?.. It won't last). But what I
really want to have is the consistent brown. I just brought Eudora back to
the screen. The task icon turned back blue when I clicked on it! And
remains so.

I have tried changing the desktop icon, and find one (persons at table)
that has an accompanying taskbar icon, but that's blue. Recently, I found an
old 5.2 icon, but that does no better, task icon still blue most of the
time.

Any suggestions?

Yes; I did that early-on and that restored all the old signage except
the stable brown task bar icon.

Yes. No appropriate icons there.

Next, I tried the Eudora 7.1 Help tab, which advised me to wrote to:
win-eud...@eudora.com

I did so, answering all questions, but that message bounced, so I am
repeating it here.
(The .ini file was attached then. I tried to copy it here, but it's too long
to put here sensibly, so you would have to tell me which entry to
investigate. )

My answers are the indented lines.

Subject: Bug Report [Angelo Campanella 7109.0.4F1DE2D9]
X-Attachments: C:\My Documents\hnw40\Attachments\eudora_c.ini;

Please describe the problem:

Wrong colored task bar icon.

Please provide the following information:

What operating system are you using (please provide the exact version)

Windows XP SP3

What Internet browser(s) do you have installed (please provide exact
version(s))?

Chrome (default), Firefox, Internet Explorer and Netscape

What version of Eudora are you running?

Eudora 7.1.0.3.

Which mode are you using (sponsored, paid or light)?

Paid (at one time; now the info indicated "sponsored").

Can you consistently duplicate the problem?

Yes. It started when I upgraded out of 5.2 into 7.1.0.3

(5.2 and before always showed brown mail boxes everywhere.)

If so, please list the exact steps to reproduce the problem.

Boot up. Activate Eudora. Look to task bar. See blue mail box much
of the time, brown other times. (I like the brown color; it's easy to spot
as I work.) It turns blue without warning while working. I don't like blue;
as it's hard to recognize without a special glance. Can you make it to be
brown all the time?

I tried changing the Eudora icon, but I have only two choices: The
7. icon (people at table) which also includes this ugly blue mailbox icon,
and the old blue "Eu" icon with no accompanying box icon.

Oldicons.epi is a plugin which automatically supplies old icons to the new program;
it is completely automatic, and there is no action for a user to take
other than to move (or copy) that plugin to the main program directory.

If that plugin does not influence taskbar icons then you'll either
have to go back to using an extremely obsolete Eudora version,
just to get the color you want for taskbar icons,
or accept the changes brought by the more modern version,
to get all the updates it comes with,
according to whichever is more important to you.

No doubt you tried to assign an initial icon in your shortcut,
but the program internally changes the current taskbar icon,
according to new mail arrival, etc., so you can't make that
a permanent change.

Eudora development ended in October 2006, and all paid support ended
within 12 months afterwards, according to when you last paid and how much;
that's why the entire old Eudora business is long "boarded up" and will never re-open.

The behavior is not a bug nor can you change it via any settings in that file.

Be sure to thank some deity if blue taskbar icons are the worst thing that ever befalls us :)
