I guess that manyh of us get spam-mail regularily from one source (in my
case earthlink.net). While I'm sure this has been suggested... what about
hitting their admins up (and bouncing every piece of spam BACK to them).
Now I'm not talking mailing to root or postmaster @ofending site. I'm
sure many of those are just redirected to /dev/null and they never have to
deal with it. Instead, direct it to the contacts from the 'whois' database.
For example - I gets lots of mail from earthlink.com/earthlink.net. They
admins have never responded. And the mail keeps comming. So they allow their
own users to make our accounts un-usable... lets make theirs un-usable (I'm
not talking sending them core files - just bouncing their own spam back to
them).
For earlink.net the only contact appearts to be:
hostm...@EARTHLINK.NET
- the domain admin....
For earthlin.com (same company as earthlin.net as far as I can tell):
hostm...@EARTHLINK.NET, s...@EARTHLINK.NET, ly...@EARTHLINK.NET
tech contact admin contact bliing contact
Admitedly the billing contact normaly doesn't have very much control over
the users, but we might as well make her life miserable as well (she can
bitch at her admin about all the mail). And if they decide to switch accounts,
well it's going to show up in the 'whois' database again anyways. We just
update who this mail gets forwarded to.
Thoughts..... lies.... omitions....?????

Not bad of an idea.......with nothing written in the message--only Return
to Sender in the subject line.......and if the spam isn't from
them.....forward it to them anyway......with a polite note stating that the
spammer is using a competitor and hope they appreciate you refering to them
a possible customer.
Hot damn....even Sanford can't complain if people start refering possible
customers that are using competative services......you could even ask him
to send you five dollars for each lead that becomes a
customer......uuhh...but that would be spamming.....wouldn't it?....oh,
well.....do it for free!!!

Is it really that difficult for an ISP to add a hook to their mail server
which waves a red flag when a user sends more than 50 (100) emails/day? Seems
like it'd be a relatively easy task. Commercial customers who are sending
legitimate email in large numbers can be automaticially bypassed as would be
appropriate.
Seems to me that the ISP who WANTS to control this crap can do it if he
wishes.

This is complete bullshit. Over the last month, I've sent dozens of
complaints (one for each spam encountered) to ab...@earthlink.net,
postm...@earthlink.net and sp...@earthlink.net. All I've got back in return
is an auto-responder message; Earthlink has taken absolutely no actions on the
spammers as far as I can see, because the spam continues unabated with
absolute impunity.
I've also sent msgs to all of Earthlink's upstream servers, asking them for
cooperation in putting pressure on Earthlink to take action; I've sent
messages to Earthlink's support department, accounts department, asking for
help in the hope of reaching a human being who actually reads the mails I
sent. No results whatsoever.
I've also asked all my fans at a.b.p.e.scheherazade who are earthlink
customers to complain to their support personnel, and I know of at least 3
who've done so, again without having any effect.
If you're really concerned about Earthlink (or if you're a staff of
earthlink), then I hope you bring this to your admin's attention. I can send
you a listing of spams if you need it.
Best regards,
Scheherazade

Create a new mailbox called SPAM and then create a filter that will check
the'from:' for 'contains' earthlink.net, and if you see that it may be a
fake from address then also select 'or' 'any header' and 'transfer' not
copy to the SPAM mailbox as not to mess up regular trash. Create a filter
for each one you want to not look at.

A simple answer to the spam problem. BOYCOTT. Do not buy the goods or
services of any company or individual which annoys you with spam.
