If I minimize Eudora v7.1.0.9 to the system tray, to open Eudora takes
two clicks, once on the icon, then click on "Open Eudora".

All other system-tray-icon programs open on a single click.

Am I missing some setting?

Many of the programs in my system tray require two clicks
(or one double-click), including even Windows' "Volume Control."

Under my current updated Windows XP, I find that Eudora's tray icon
won't, however, respond properly even to a double-click,
which does bring back its Taskbar button,
but doesn't close the pop-up menu from the tray icon,
leaving Eudora unable to be opened,
even from its Taskbar button,
until one manages to get rid of that tray button menu,
which requires a mouse movement, followed by a second click,
as you said.

Oh well -- just another bad first try by Qualcomm
(and unfortunately there won't be a second try),
so there may be just a choice of either not using it at all,
or accepting the way it is now -- or see
whether Brana's plugin does it any better.

Neither to be argumentative or "ornery", but
1. my windows volume control responds to one single click and
2 .a single click on the tray icon opens Eudora.

Why? How would I know? I'm not a computer expert, I just use the
sucker.
I now have SP3, but it worked that way with SP2 as well.

Do you get the same thing as when you double-click?
(or right-click and then "Open Volume Control"?)

> A single click on the tray icon opens Eudora.

Is that when there is new mail (icon with arrow),
or even when only "minimized to tray" (with no Taskbar button)?

If the latter, then different here; don't know why --
thanks for posting, since it suggests that "there may be a way."

The System Tray is usually 2 clicks
The Quick Launch Bar is usually 1 click

Try:
For WinXP
My Computer | Tools | Folder Options | General Tab |
Click Item as Follows
Click Radio Button for single click or double click

For Win98
My Computer | View | Folder Options | General Tab |
Custom, based on settings you choose => Settings Button
Click Item as Follows
Click Radio Button for single click or double click

John:

First: a dumb question. Am I correct that the icons on the left
bottom of my screen constitute the " The Quick Launch Bar", and the
ones on the right (beginning with the clock on the very right) are in
the "The System Tray"?

If so, the icons on the Quick Launch Bar respond to a single click.
Items in the System Tray vary:
For example, single-clicking the Volume Control brings up a small
panel where I can adjuct the volume and/or mute the sound.
Right-clicking the same icon brings up a two-line menu:
"Open Volume Control" and "Adjust Audio Properties".
Doiuble-clicking it brings up a panel which, in addition to muting and
adjusting the volume, also lets me adjust "Wave", SW Synth", "Line in"
and "CD Audio". (On my laptop, which has a more sophisticated sound
card, there are more adjustments).

Re Eudora: I work it a little different: Mailwasher Pro alerts me to
incoming email. When I click on "Process Mail", it automatically
opens Eudora.
To write an outgoing email I click on the Eudora icon in the Quick
Launch Bar, or double click on the Eudora icon on the desk top.

Hope my rambling reply makes sense. If not, please ask.

Yes, though Quick-launch toolbar itself can be relocated (or even detached);
the "System tray" also has the "depression" which toolbars do not.

Yes!

Fine; even if Eudora is already open, a duplicate request
simply switches to the already opened application
(different shortcuts which point to different mail "data" folders,
on the other hand, would open separately).

The "Folder options" adjustment suggested by DJ
would immediately open any file (or shortcut)
on one click, which sometimes is dangerous,
especially if you are used to a single click
just "selecting" a file in "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer";
I don't know whether it has any effect on System Tray icons.

I use the Quick Launch bar (on the left side of the Taskbar) instead of the
System Tray to open programs that I use most often -- Eudora, WordPerfect,
Handy Address Book, etc. In that way, they open with a single click. I was
also told by a computer tech several years ago (but can't guarantee this is
correct) that fewer resources are used when programs are in the Quick Launch
Bar than in the System Tray.

Add a shortcut to the program to your desktop. Right-click on the Taskbar
and unlock it. Drag the shortcut onto the left side of the Quick Launch
bar. You should be able to see two little dotted separaters (very light)
when the Taskbar is unlocked. You can drag several program shortcuts to the
Taskbar in this way and you can also position them in any way you want. The
original shortcut will remain on your desktop, and you can dump that in the
Recycle Bin. That will not affect your program or the shortcut you just
created on the Quick Launch bar. Be sure to relock the Taskbar! I did this
for several years in XP and now in Vista. It works the same in each, and
it's a "system" I really like.
