Help says to look in "outgoing message options", but I can't find it
there.

Help!?!

Tools | Options | Attachments : "Put text attachments in body of message"
is the global setting.

You can toggle it for an individual message by using the button on the
composition window toolbar; it's just left of the middle of the top bar,
between QP and WordWrap.

I don't think that's it. That puts any attachments I may send in the body.
I don't want that, either.

When I send certain people (seems to happen more with Eudora Light) a message
and they respond to me, the message comes back readable - but full of
garbage, and sometimes missing whole sections of the email. A friend just
installed EP 4.1, and she said someone told her this was happening because
she had the text in her emails designated to go as an attachment. Oh, and
we're all using MIME format, communicating on the same email server, and no
one is using Outlook.

Perhaps this is wrong, and I'm asking the wrong question. Any ideas?

Is anyone using IMAP?

Try Tools|Options|Sending Mail| Check "May use quoted-printable."

Eudora Light doesn't support Uuencoded attachments.

What exactly does "Text As Attachment" mean?

I know this will sound simplistic but... it means that a text file will be
sent like an attachment, i.e., designated as an attachment. Otherwise, a
text file will became part of the message body.

And the original post has it backwards; in Eudora, text files - like all
others - are attachments by default.
