Look up at "From" field. The quotes around a name make no sense logically
or grammatically. How can I get rid of them? Evidently, they are added by
Eudora (similar to what is done in Netscape Newsgroups).
Quote marks weaken something - like winking, a form of disclaimer, thus
saying: "I'm not really this person."
Well, I really am Dr. Michael Ecker and I hate the quotes. Please! Any
suggestions? Or am I at the mercy of the software-writers?
P.S. I'll take it as an act of kindness not to recommend therapy. If I
have to, I will learn to live with this. But, if I can have my druthers...
Thanks,
Mike

For email purposes you are not really Dr. Michael Ecker, you are

What is this a pitch, Mike. As I look at the "From's" I see yours
with quotes and others without. Look at mine. I use Eudora
1.5.4b12(16). What do you use?

Folks, the reason is that the sender has a comma in his "real name". A
comma to SMTP hosts in the From or To fields usually means it's from or to
more than on e person. Therefore quotes are used so that the entire real
name can be preserved. Take the comma out and see what I mean.

That figures. While considering Mike's problem I looked through lots
of messages I have received over the months and some had the real name
in parentheses, rather than quotes. What's the significance of that?
I have just been back to look at some of those again and the ones I
looked at had no punctuation in them.
Also in most cases the real name precedes the email address but in a
few it's the other way round. Is this is a function of the software
sending the message, and/or does it too have a significance?

Well, I got a whole bunch of wise-guy answers, but one respondent had the
answer - and he's the only one who did not post to share with others.
In a nutshell, remove any periods (Dr instead of Dr.) and all is fine.
Thanks to Jerry for the great help! (Sorry, Jerry; forgot your last name.)
Thanks,
Mike

It's the "." that's doing you in. Try "Dr" or "Doctor" or (horrors!) dropping
the title. Same thing happens with initials.

I couldn't post publicly because of a problem with my news server so if
this makes it to the group....glad I could help. For anybody else who may
have quotes around their name and who would like them removed, it's:
special|settings|personal information=====>>>> then remove any periods in
your name.

I've done a little experimenting and any sort of punctuation seems to
provoke it, except it does allow a hyphenated name.
