Hello,

Stupid newbie (well, not-so-new... been using
Eudora since v1 5 years ago) question here. I
was helping someone else new to Eudora over ICQ,
and she said her Personalities window
disappeared. So I clicked and dragged the slider
all the way to the left on mine to make it
disappear and see what it would do, so I could
tell her what to do. Lo and behold, I can't get
it back! Been trying for the better part of a
half hour now. Any help would be mucho
appreciated. This is Eudora v5.0 btw, if that
makes a difference.

Yeah, she just clicked on the Mailboxes tab... of
course. Sheesh!

Thanks muchly,

Ryan.

I had a similar problem... this was the fix from the eudora help
staff...

4.3 you can reset the settings by holding down ctrl, shift, and click
on tools then options. This will reset the settings only of eudora,
not your mail account info or any messages in any of your mailboxes.

You can also try this,

Do this fix, go to Start choose find/files or folders, make sure you
are looking in the C:\ drive. Under Named you will enter eudora.ini.
Open this file by double clicking on it. choose search and then find,
enter commercial. When this comes up with commercial. I want you to
put a ; right before the C of commercial like this
;Commercial32Version=16
This will reset all the windows and fix the problem.

What happens when you click Tools -> Mailboxes?

If it doesn't show up, it's possible that the window is floating and is
hidden under another window. Try closing all the mailbox windows and see
if you can see it. If that's the case, then you should be able to re-dock
the window with the main application frame. Just drag it over near the
egde of the application frame and it should snap back into place.

If it won't dock, perhaps you've disabled it's "dockable" flag. Right-click
in the mailboxes window and make sure "Allow docking" is checked.

Hope this helps,

Thank you both for the helpful suggestions. While mucking around, I
had a little idea. When I clicked on Tools --> Mailboxes (or any of
the other tabs which are a part of that little window), nothing would
happen. The active window would change, but the actual window was
offscreen, and couldn't be dragged back to where it should be. So, I
simply clicked Tools --> Mailboxes and hit the Right-click key on my
keyboard. The little option menu came up and I hit "Float in main
window" Boom! There it is. Now.. I have it back, BUT, it won't dock
at the left or right of the screen. I had it at the left before, where
Eudora has always put it as default. Now it will only dock at the top
or bottom of the screen, and I don't like that. The only way I can
have it at the left is if I resize the windows and keep all the other
windows "restored" and not maximized. This will just bother me, I know
that. I've pretty much tried everything, and checked and unchecked all
the docking options in the Mailboxes window, to no avail.

So I suppose now my only choice is to reset the settings, as Dave has
suggested, and hope for the best. Though I will have a buggar of a
time resetting all my options, as I have Eudora pretty customized.
Darn.

Thanks for the help guys, take care,

Thank you both for your helpful suggestions. I finally figured out how
to get my Mailboxes window back. Whenever I'd click Tools -->
Mailboxes, the active window would change, but nothing would appear, as
the window was offscreen somewhere. What I did was click Tools -->
Mailboxes to change the focus to that window, and then hit the right-
mouse-click key on the keyboard to bring up the little options menu. I
clicked "Float in main window" et voila, it appeared.

My problem now is, I can't get it to dock on the left hand side of the
screen. I've tried everything, checking and unchecking docking
options, but to no avail. It will only want to dock at the top or
bottom of the screen. Which totally kills my screen real estate. Any
ideas on how to get it to dock on the left hand side?

I suppose my only recourse is to take Daves suggestion of resetting the
options. Although I'm reluctant to do so as my Eudora settings are
pretty customized. But, if it means I can have my Mailboxes Etc.
(*wink*) window back, I'll do it.

Thanks for the help guys, and take care,

If you tell the mailboxes window to allow docking, and drag it over to the
left-hand side of the main application window, it doesn't try to dock?

Hmmm, I've never seen that before.

Well, if you have to do this at least save a copy of the current eudora.ini
file. Then you can diff the two files and see what stuff you want to put
back in. At least it would reduce some of the guess work.

I should have read this one more closely! I simply thought it was
another method to wipe the settings. I re-read the thread, just incase
I missed anything, and noticed that last sentence. It worked, my
Mailboxes window is now properly docked at the left of my screen, and
all my other settings were left intact. Thank you Dave!

Also I'm sorry for clogging the group with my problem ;) BTW, that
double post was unintentional. Got a server error with Deja and
thought the first one didn't go through. Once again, thanks to all.
Now I can fully enjoy Eudora again, as I have been for the last five
years. :)

Take care,

Hi all,

I found a solution to the "Mailboxes window floating, refuses to dock" problem, that does not require modifying any files or reverting to all defaults. First, remember that right-clicking on a window brings up a little options menu. Some windows (such as Mailboxes) are dockable, others are not. If it is a dockable window, the "Allow Docking" checkbox will appear. The Eudora manual for 7.1 (available online) tells you that to dock a window at the left border, check "Allow docking" and then drag the window to the left edge of the main Eudora window. However, I found that this DOES NOT WORK AS DESCRIBED if there are other windows open in Floating mode. Here's what you have to do:

- Situation: Mailboxes, In, & Out windows all appear to be floating. Mailboxes window refuses to dock.
- Solution: Right-click on the Mailboxes window. Make sure that "Allow docking" and "Float in Main window" are NOT CHECKED, i.e, the Mailboxes window is in Normal mode (see Eudora 7.1 manual for definitions). Now, MAXIMIZE the other open windows (In, Out). As a result of these actions, you will see the Mailboxes window by itself, visible over the In and Out windows. Next, right-click on the Mailboxes window again and re-check "Allow docking". Finally, drag the Mailboxes window to the left edge of the Eudora main window. This time, it will dock correctly, and the In, Out windows will display to the right of the Mailboxes window as per the default view.
