In addition to my clipboard still refusing to copy any HTML into
Eudora (which has been going on for several weeks now), a few minutes
ago Eudora disappeared off my screen completely.

I clicked on the icon, nothing happened. I rebooted several times,
re-clicking on the icon. The logo image came up once, but no files. I
finally went into the whole B.S. Windows 7 string
(C:/Users/jj/application data/roaming/Qualcomm/Eudora/Eudora
7.1....scuze me for a second, I'm out of breath), found the In.mbx and
clicked on it, just to see if anything would happen. Whadaya know? It
opened my main Eudora Inbox window! Now I don't know if I should close
it.

Anyone else dealt with something like this?

First, shouldn't that be "AppData" (no space)?

Second, why one "Eudora" directory under another?

If this was simply typed from not so literal memory,
then its lack of being true renders it not helpful,
but if one does accidentally _move_ one's data folder,
this would certainly upset Eudora in some way.

One needs to make oneself very factual and supply
the real details of things -- liberal use of copy and paste,
screen images uploaded to free hosts, etc.,
greatly enhance the chances of identification
of whatever is really going on.

That said, wait for someone who actually uses Win7
to try to get the picture from you -- I'm a perfectly happy camper
with WinXP, which has another two years of scheduled update support
for all security issues, and has not made itself too enamored
of the makeup on its face to keep its deeper pores
fresh, clean, simple, and consistent with its best years :)

You have no idea how I'd love to install XP on this rig. I have no
problems with my XP laptop or desktop, both of which are 10 years old.
Moving right along...

First, yeah, that's AppData.

Second, I have no idea. That's what happened when I
installed/transfered my old Eudora to this machine and parked the data
in the required string of Win7 b.s. In fact, the folder is still
named Eudora 5.2, even though I've been running 7.1.0.9 for months,
and 6.2 before that. (I didn't rename it because I didn't want to take
a chance on losing the path to 16 years worth of attachments.)

Third, as usual, everything was running just fine until several weeks
ago, when suddenly the HMTL wouldn't paste. I still haven't found an
answer to that mystery.

Fourth, re the now- disappearing Eudora main window: For some reason
unknown to my center of the universe (heh), when I click on the
Minimize icon in the open Eudora window, it not only minimizes, but
the minimized Eudora block in the taskbar completely disappears! So, I
can't go back and re-maximize. The only way I get the window back (and
we're now presuming Eudora is already open, since clicking on the
usual icons doesn't do anything) is to use an In.mbx desktop shortcut
I created in desperation. But clicking on it directly will still not
make the window re-appear. I have to use the right-click drop-down
menu, and hit "Open."

Why am I reminded of Procol Harum's famous line, "Well, my son -- life
is like a bean stalk. Isn't it?"

That happens when you enable Tools > Options > Display > Minimize
Eudora to the system tray

And when it is "minimized to the system tray,"
is there an icon in the system tray (small icons near the clock)
which can be used to open Eudora's application window again?

If not, then disable Eudora's "minimize to system tray" option.

Many applications use that option to un-clutter the Taskbar
and clutter up the system tray instead :)

Yes

Yeah? I don't ever recall checking that box. I'd have no reason to.
But I just went in and unchecked it. Thanks!

Well, you know, it's Windows 7. Nothing's where it's supposed to be. I
had to go online and find a workaround program that would let me put
the desktop icon back on the far left of the system tray (instead of
the far right. I mean, WTF, Billy?!?).

I do have a Eudora icon in the tray (what do they call this now,
"pinned to the taskbar?"), next to icons for Desktop, Firefox, Chrome,
Windows Explorer and shorts cuts to a coupe hard drives. But the
disappearing act occured on the other side of the taskbar dividing
line, where open programs have this little 1/2" sections in the tray.

>If not, then disable Eudora's "minimize to system tray" option.

Done!

This whole OS is a clutterf***! :)

I should mention that mine are nowhere near the clock in the right
corner. All my stuff is to the far left.

You didn't see it because:

The system tray, also called the notification area, doesn't always
show all the icons. Some are hidden and will appear when you click the
little up-pointing arrow.

You can customize what is always visible by right-clicking on the task
bar and selecting Properties. Then click the customize icon.

You didn't check the box because it's "on" by default.

========================================
EUDORA FOR WINDOWS, VERSION 7.1 -- RELEASE NOTES
========================================

----------------------------------------------
CHANGES FROM 7.0.1.0 TO 7.1.0.9
----------------------------------------------

NEW FEATURES
------------

Two options were added for the Eudora icon in the OS system tray, both
of which are in Tools->Options->Display. "Minimize Eudora to the
system tray" makes the OS taskbar item for Eudora disappear when
Eudora is minimized. When it is hidden from the OS taskbar, the
system tray icon will appear. This option defaults to being on.
"Always show icon in system tray" ensures that the Eudora icon always
appears, but is off by default. This keeps the behavior similar to
previous versions of Eudora where the system tray icon would only show
up when there are new messages. Also, the system tray icon now has a
context menu when you right-click on it, which includes easy access to
the two options mentioned above and to some frequently used actions:
New Message, Check Mail, Work Offline, and Exit.

Well, after all this weirdness, and still no proper clipboard
function, can I just re-install v7.1.0.9 over the existing
installation and not lose anything? It really seems like something's
been corrupted, and I'm guessing (hoping) a fresh install will fix it.
