I recently changed from v. 6.2 to v.7.0.1, and I'm finding that
my mailbox on the server is now retaining all my messages.
This is not my preference, and I had a setup so that this
never happened in the past. I believe that the change
has occurred only since I installed version 7.0.

Here is more detail:
I use IMAP, and my server is a UNIX system. I have Eudora set
to "When I delete a message, move it to Trash." I have a filter
set so that any incoming mail gets transferred from my Inbox
to another mailbox. Until recently, this worked the way
I wanted things: It kept my Inbox and the mailbox on the server
(my "mbox") empty because everything was transferred to
a local mailbox. Now, apparently coincident with my
change to version 7, I find that all my mail is remaining
in my server's mbox. Nothing shows in my Eudora Inbox, and
all the messages appear to be transferred appropriately to
my desired local mailbox. I am also noticing another oddity,
namely that the downloading and transferring of incoming mail
is noticeably and visibly slow. While it used to be essentially
instantaneous, it now takes 10-15 sec and flashes various
"saving" and "transferring" messages. This puzzles me,
as to my knowledge, I didn't change any settings when I
changed to v.7.0.

Any thoughts here?

Thanks in advance,

That's the problem. Doing that results in the message being hidden, but
does not actually mark it as deleted. Hidden messages aren't actually
removed unless the server in question automatically deals with them. (I
don't think that is really what is supposed to happen, but that is what
actually does happen with my IMAP account.) If you tell Eudora to mark
deleted messages as deleted, then they'll be deleted from the server.
Since you're transferring the messages to a local mailbox, the downloaded
copy of them will go to the local Trash mailbox when you delete it.

IMAP has been considerably revamped in 7.x, In some ways the changes are
good. In some ways they're bad. If you're accumulating a lot of hidden
messages on the server, that will make mailchecks take somewhat longer. If
so, changing the above-mentioned setting should fix it. Some of what
you're seeing may be due to the fact that Eudora now saves some IMAP
changes and does them in clumps when you're not doing other things.
