To me, "OSE 1.0" doesn't even look like real (original) Eudora;
in fact, what it looks and acts nearly exactly like
is Mozilla's Thunderbird -- which, in fact, it is!
(frozen at Thunderbird release level 3.0.4)

The folder pane is designed to have collapsable/expandable "tree" elements,
as well as to have various different available views ("All Folders,"
"Favorite Folders," "Smart Folders" etc.)
Tree nodes having "+/-" indicators happen to have a standard "open all" function,
whose keyboard shortcut is the gray (numeric keypad) "*" key.
Mailboxes _imported_ from Classic Eudora are designed to be
imported by OSE into Local Folders, since classic Eudora
uses only one combined set of mailboxes for all POP accounts,
for which "Local Folders" is analogous in Thunderbird.
If you mean that the entire folder tree may sometimes disappear
in both OSE and Thunderbird versions 3.x, this is a known issue
having a known solution:
<
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Empty_folders>
<
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Empty_folder_pane>
Since the content of the above has undergone recent change
(for more recent TB versions), the solution for TB version 3.x was:
"Delete the session.json and foldertree.json files from your TB profile.
They will be re-created when you start Thunderbird again, using default values."
