Hi folks,

on my macintosh, mac os X.3, Eudora 6.0,
Eurora started hanging while openining the "in" mailbox, then crashed.

i've changed the "in" mailbox to another name "OldIn", and reseted the
necessary Eudora settings.

Now, Eudora runs correctly.

But, when I open the OldIn mailbox, Eudora still hangs, then crashes.
I guess it is a problem with the TOC.

Is there a fix on the mac to rebuild the TOC ?

Thanks,
Nicolas

Here is the backtrace of the program.
Indeed, the problem originates in "BuildTOC / CheckTOC" .

I don't know the answer, but something that others will probably want to
know in order to help is what kind of TOC do you use. Do you use the
old style ".toc" files, or is the TOC stored in the resource fork? (To
check, look at your Settings under "Miscellaneous.")

I think if you use the old style ".toc" files, you can just move the
file to a different location and Eudora will rebuild the file. You'll
lose the information about which messages have been read or deleted or
responded to, but at least you would be able to open the mailbox. (You
may have to quit and restart Eudora to get the benefit.)

The following article may contain useful information
about forcing a rebuild of a TOC in a mailbox resource fork,
as well as how to delete a resource fork
(which, in itself, should of course force a rebuild,
if the current general option is to use resource forks for TOCs):

"How to Fix Corrupt Eudora Mailboxes"
http://db.tidbits.com/article/9545 [04 Apr 2008]

Although it initially sounded like a great idea
to use resource forks for TOCs,
this practice comes with various "gotchas,"
which might make the "separate TOC files" idea
just a bit better, in the long run.
