nfrm from Elm ME+ can read IMAP (or POP) mailboxes,
but it prompts password -- you can not save password
to configuration.

However, it is slow for this purpose.

I am not sure whether a pop server actually knows what emails have been
read.

So the whole project may be a waste of time.

Only a given client knows what POP emails have been read.

Yes, nfrm (or frm) and elm -commands from Elm ME+
uses ~/Mail/.{pop-mailbox-name} -files for keeping track
of mails which are read.

After all these commands are part of same client.
