MacSSH and the arrow keys

Since I installed ssh on my freebsd box and I switched from NiftyTelnet
to MacSSH I can't get the arrow keys to work in either vi or
/stand/sysinstall.

This keeps me from entering and using /stand/sysinstall remotely.
Is there a way to configure MacSSH so it behaves the same as NiftyTelnet
with respect to the arrow keys?
I'm sure it's something silly I'm overlooking.
