OKAY ...Got my video back but a smaal problem.
Under CONTROL PANEL , DISPLAY , SETTINGS
I'm seeing "default monitor on Standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)"
and only 16 colors available. Seems to me the original setting was 256
which gave a very clear and crisp display.
Any suggestions?

Sorry for the posting; I was at my wit's end.
Downloaded new video drivers, picked the one that my hardware required.
Now, the clarity and beauty has returned!
