I'm new to this NG. I'm in the market for a new laptop. It'll be a PC,
since all of my music software is for PC. I assume almost every laptop has
at least one USB port, which would also be a necessity. I'm trying to stay
at or under $1300 or so. Speed and storage are important, as is the finest
possible sound card (or whatever it is that's responsible for the sound!).
A good display is also important, as I watch a lot of DVD movies on the
road. Too, I'll need to be able to take advantage of wi-fi hotspots when
available.
I've had good luck with my old Dell Inspiron (but it's OOOOOOLD) as well as
my Dell Dimension 8200 desktop. I've also heard good things about the HP
notebooks.
Whew! Sorry about all the details. But if you're willing, anyone care to
throw any suggestions my way? So many choices out there, it's overwhelming.
Thanks!

I just bought a new HP nv5000 and discovered it won't run long on even
their largest battery. My mistake? Wrong processor chip. I just
didn't know beforehand. If I had asked around.... What makes for a
great laptop?.... someone would have warned me (like they did AFTER I
bought!).
Spend a few days talking to musicians first.

Thanks.
