I have a bootable original windows xp disk that I have used on my
desktop. But when I put it into the laptop, it is not recognized
during bootup.
I have gone down all the bios paths. It is set to boot from a CD. I
have even tried teh boot device prompt and selected atapi CD. I have 2
differente cd/dvd players, and a cd/rw, and none of them will boot from
this bootable cd.
How are you suppose to install windows xp if the cd-rom drives don't
recognize a bootable disk and I there is only one slot, so I can't have
both the floppy and cd in place.
I can't boot the computer either because there was some sort of failure
and when I attempt to re-start the computer, it says no operating
system found. The hard drive is recognized in the bios as well as
everything else, but I just can't get the bootable Windows XP to work.
Any suggestions?
Try finding another copy of Windows XP, or try installing a live
version of Linux from the CD. If it works then you have a working CD
otherwise your CD might be gone.
By the way a nice working live version of Linux can be found at:

Burn this image into a CD then try to boot your laptop from it.
