im looking to buy a new laptop, and i was wondering about the differences in
the 2 processors (pentium m vs pentium 4). this computer will be used as a
desktop replacement. i am looking for a computer that will let me play my
games as well as all other stuff that my desktop will let me do. currently
i am looking into the hpzd8000 and the dell inspiron 9300, with the pentium
m and pentium 4, respectively. any help or suggestions would be
appreciated.

thanks,

dustin

If you want true portability, PM is the way to go. The P4 will get very hot.
They are both close as far as speed goes even though the PM is advertised as
"slower" than the P4.

The Pentium M chip is the way to go for laptops. It will not be likely to
cause overheating of your laptop as compared to the P4 chip.

Yes, you can play games comfortably with at least a 1.8Ghz.

The PM was designed from the ground up and so a 1.8Ghz is equivalent to a
3.0Ghz P4 EXCEPT multithreading.

If you run many apps in the background, get a P4.

H/W, if you wanna play games, this would not be an issue.

Finally, you need a separate graphics card with at least 128mb memory (not a
integrated graphics card) to play games. This is not dependent on your final
choice of the processor.
