Hi:

Luiz Rafael Culik has provided us all with an excellent .pdf manual of
all the functions available with Harbour with examples included with those
functions.

Altho it is aimed primarily at Harbour users (rathan than xHarbour
users), I believe it is an excellent reference for us all.

I have included this .pdf manual as an available download on the
alternate xHarbour download site ( www.whosaway.com Password: 'XHB').

You will have to scroll down a bit to find the file (but I've placed a
color-code of White on Blue in the right-hand column for easy
identification).

Thanks to Luiz !!

Hi:

My web site has been DoS attacked frequently in the past and
currently also. I try to stop these attacks by examining the IP addresses,
and setting my Apache server to return 403 codes to the offending client.

If you have been denied access, please email me with your actual IP,
and I'll 'unlock' it.

Thanks,

-Mel Smith

No, I didn't get an email from you but I tracked down the offending IP,
and re-established it.

Please try again

So, is this an old manual or did you get it from someone else? People are getting confused ;-))
Thanks!

Patrick:

But *somebody* placed his name (i.e., Luiz Rafael Culik) in the metadata
portion of the .pdf file --- I certainly didn't .

Doesn't the metadata also say that it was created 2002-01-20 22:17:48?
More than 10 years ago ...

Klas:

Yup !

But what does this mean to all of us ??

Did Luiz forget about doing this or did he actually author this document
or what ? And what does Patrick have to say about this (because his
company spent a lot of money in producing a complete set of docs about
xHarbour -- which I and others purchased ?/)

I need some guidance please ??

Hi Mel,
I have not bothered to look into this document in detail to compare it
with other existing info. But there is a utility called hbdoc.exe which
still exists in source form in the utils directory. It can be run with a
/pdf switch. I only ever used the /htm switch with the xhb version of
hbdoc once, eight years ago, so I don't know how functional /pdf is. But
my guess is that Luiz ran it with /pdf a couple of years before I built
my html manual and then forgot about it. Hbdoc uses the txt files in the
doc directory as input. So anyone who is interested in examining the
evidence can compare the files in the doc directory with exhibit A. :-)

Apparently it is mostly unknown that there actually existed docs before
the manual that xharbour.com created a few years ago. But those docs are
not complete and they certainly do not reflect the changes and
extensions that have been made in the last decade. And the reasons why
this document is called a Harbour manual are of course strictly
historical. Besides, I am pretty sure that the info in the xharbour.com
manual did not come out of the blue but was built with the original docs
as a foundation - with a lot more work added, of course.

Regards,
Klas

Its good for people to know that these doc's are auto created many years ago when current xHarbour developers where still active in Harbour.

As a side note, please let it be clear that I'm not against Harbour or its developers, on the contrary, I love them all!! I just want people to know where these doc's come from ;-)

I talked to Luiz and he says these doc's where auto created with HBDoc from Harbour's source at that time.

Case closed ;-)
