A coworker told me that .dump files and .sst files are actually
open-standard file formats. if that's true, anyone know where I can get
my hands on a copy of the format specification?

Oh, Cadence's Verilog-XL is the source of these files, if that makes a
difference.

The VCD format (dump) is a standard and is explained in Chap-19, Vol-2
of Verilog-XL ref manual 2.0. To the best of my knowledge .sst format
is a proprietary format. If it is not I too would like to know where I
can find the .sst format.

Thanx,

The SST format is a proprietary format,
owned by Design Acceleration Inc.
They have now released the SST2 with compression.
DAI claims this is 100x compression over VCD.
DAI will license the SST2 database to customers. See
http://www.designacc.com/
I enclose the broschure.
