ANNOUNCE: Tcl/Tk 8.5a5 Release

The Tcl Core Team is pleased to announce the 8.5a5 releases of the Tcl
dynamic language and the Tk toolkit. This is the fifth alpha release
of Tcl/Tk 8.5. More details can be found below. We would like to
express our gratitude to all those who submit bug reports and patches.
This information is invaluable in enabling us to identify and eliminate
problems in the core.

Summary of Changes since Tcl/Tk 8.5a4:

The following were the main changes in Tcl/Tk 8.5a5. A complete list
can be found in the changes file at the root of the source tree. The
more complete ChangeLog is also included with each source release.
This release is the fourth alpha release of 8.5. The alpha moniker means
that it is in feature addition mode. All relevant bug fixes (and some
more) up to and including 8.4.14 changes are included in 8.5a5. The
following list focuses on new features added so far in 8.5. This release
is a development release, and should only be considered for deployment
use after considerable testing.
* [TIP 264] New Tk_Interp() routine.
* [TIP 268] [package] alpha/beta; requirement ranges; [package prefer].
* [TIP 275] [binary scan] support for unsigned data.
* Nanosecond timer resolution on Darwin.
* New tcltest option, -verbose line, in tcltest 2.3a1
* Permit "_" in Tcl Module names.
* New expr parser reports different error messages.
* Stack trace from aliases now report alias, not target.
* Quieter [history] when debugging.
* Dropped support for pre-Tcl_Filesystem hooks for filesystem operations.
* Fixed crash in [dict for {file stat} x {}].
* Fixed crash in [namespace path] finalization.
* Several [clock] bugs fixed.
* Several [expr] bugs fixed dealing with bignums.
* Updated clock tzdata to Olson's tzdata2006m.
