Read the instructions at:

http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/download.html

and report back if you still have problems (with details of steps taken
and symptoms).

I'm having problems with the plugin under both IE and Firefox.

Is it that the download wasn't working (it was due to a broken firewall
configuration that is now confirmed fixed) or is it that the file
downloaded is non-functional? Mind you, I'd not expect a .xpi to work
for IE anyway; that's a format for the "Mozilla" group of browsers.

I have successfully installed the plugin for both IE and firefox by
following the instructions at
http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/download.html

Donal is correct in saying that .xpi format won't work for IE, but you
simply rename it to a .zip file then extract the contents and do a
manual installation as per the instructions above.

While we have everyone's attention, what would be required to get the
plugin working under OS X. I have a box running both Tiger Workstation
and Tiger Server with Xcode. I'll happily compile a/o assist with the
port. I don't mind if there is not a native Safari version, one that
runs under Firefox would be fine.

I've got an Intranet App that currently runs under Tclhttpd, and was
looking at using the plugin to enhance the interface a bit. We have a
sizable minority of Mac users, so any plugins have to be available for
PC and Mac. (And if the website is already written in Tcl...)

Ah ... what would it take for OS X? Well, I'm just not sure to be
honest. Right now my plugin source base is mid-rewrite for fully
thread-safe (and optionally multi-threaded) support. When I first
started the v3 rewrite, I just tossed the old Mac sources as old (pre OS
X), but I've been told they may still apply in part.

I do hope to get to it sometime, but it's more a question of time and
actual code monkeying more than a straight compile (OS X machines seem
to be proliferating in the office ... like mad bunnies, I tell you!).

Having ported a few of my custom Apps, OS X is really just BSD with a
candy coating. I'd be happy to take a stab at porting it. I just have
to do a wee bit of learning about the plug-in API for Safari.

That job is probably easier than I imagine. Safari is really Konqueror
with a candy coating. Firefox plug-ins, of course, are a known entity.
According to my cursory glance through the developer documentation on
Apples' website Safari plug-ins come in 2 flavors: Netscape style and
Cocoa. Netscape style plugins are, well, your good old fashioned
Netscape style plug in. The Cocoa plug-ins allow you to tap into the UI
for a more integrated look and feel.

They have a pile of sample code for both types of plug-ins. If I can
nab a copy of the tcl-plugin code I'll happily give it a couple of
afternoon's work.

Ok, well pulling down from CVS was entirely too easy...

I'm running into a few build problems. Mostly .h files in the wrong
place or that include "syntax errors." I'm an old Gentoo nut, these
sorts of issues are cake.

So far I've been working on telling the system to treat OS X as just
another Unix. Worst case, OS X will run x11 programs. Once I get that
much to sunshine and happiness I'll tackle any native hooks that need
to be connected to ensure that plug-in users don't need the X11
environment to be installed.

(Coding continues...)

Please do keep poking. You might want to move this over to the
tclplugin-core mailing list at lists.sourceforge.net. It is the dev
list specifically for the plugin. It hasn't seen much traffic recently,
but it's the right place. The problem with the newsgroup is that I only
get access from home now.

SORRY TO REPORT, but....

http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/download.html link does not work for
me

Hi Mel,

for me the link works...and I also can tell you that the instructions
given here for installing the plugin are fine...

I hope you do well, I keep on playing with the code you assembled (the
toolkit), actually I am turning it a little upside-down with my own
twists...like adding on top Tom Poindexter's tcl-fast-cgi for instance,
so far more or less fine...learning...

I wonder what are your plans involving the plugin...I did not have time
to play with it at all but I don't discard it by any means...

regards !

And "does not work" means ??? The plugin is served up via ftp, and
there was a firewall issue with passive ftp on the tcl.tk machine
following its hardware relocation. This has since been fixed (sometime
last week). If you have some other issue, you have to be more precise.

I just finished my second tclet and had downloaded the tclplugin xpi
via Firefox about a week ago (ish) ftom - to test my install
instructions I tried re-downloading it via IE 6 and Firefox 1.5 (again)
at

http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/

Clicking on the Windows XPI link gives the result: Dialog box

425 failed to establish connection

The ftp server is broken - in light of this is there a different place
that stores the download so I can offer something???

I get the same if I try and download with Firefox.

Do please try again today. We have had some intermittent passive ftp
issues with the relocation of the machine into our new site and service
provider. I just tested from home and it worked with Camino.
