By all reports it was a success. We had 20 excellent papers ranging from
new extensions and potential new elements in the core to applications.
The papers will become available on the website a few months from now,
when I get time to assemble the pages.
Cyndy Lilagan gets the credit for finding the hotel, keeping them happy,
and tracking all the day-to-day excitement that nobody except the
operations staff should every notice.
Reinhard Max and Steve Redler get special thanks for keeping the
audio-visual end of things working, and broadcasting the audio to the
outside world.
Our keynote speaker was Richard Hipp, who presented an excellent
paper describing how full text searching works, and how we can use
this to take over much of the world.
Our special guest was Richard Suchenwirth who spoke of the philosophy
of simplicity, making things work with the least effort, and how Tcl
fits in with this lifestyle. It was a great pleasure to be able to
invite Richard
to the US and introduce him to some of the folks who have benefitted from
his weekend wiki projects.
I heard 4 requests for job applicants who know Tcl. There may have
been more.
The social functions were well attended. Cleaning up in the morning, I
found lost articles of clothes and code fragments on the back of napkins
along with the usual post-party detritus.
Next year, Steve Redler will be handling the Hotel Laison position, and
will be hosting the conference in New Jersey. The details are yet to be
determined, but look for the conference in early October.
We have a conditional acceptance from Miguel Sofer to be our invited
guest. If you want to meet Miguel, this may be your best chance.
See folks in 2007 in Joisey. Youse is all invited.

Wow - all it took to get Miguel to attend is to host things in New
Jersey...
That seems so simple, in hindsight...

I've been unemployed for about 3 weeks after several years working on
a Tcl-based project. I looked at the job leads on the wiki recently and
they all looked very stale. Do you remember any of the details of the
job availabilities?

I know Will Duquette mentioned during his talk that JPL was looking to
hire someone with Tcl experience.
Michael
Thanks! I've gotten several private responses (including from Will) each
of which I've replied to with a cover letter and resume.
